‘Alaskan Bush People’: Billy Sued For Big Bucks

The matriarch of Alaska’s Bush People, Ami Brown, is still fighting an uphill battle for ownership of Billy Brown. For the most part, Ami has kept to herself by living atop the Washington mountain she calls home. She’s also been put in charge of the legal battle, but it doesn’t seem to be going well.

Alaskan Bush People viewers will recall that in May of last year, Billy Brown’s estate was sued for $500,000. The lawsuit alleged that Billy failed to pay profits to an investor. The money in question came from the success of the show and sales of his books.

A Tennessee physician named Robert Maughon filed the lawsuit against Billy Brown’s estate and the family business, Alaska Wilderness Family Productions, for breach of contract on April 27, 2021.

The Sun recently reported that Ami is struggling to win a lawsuit over her husband’s estate. Ami Brown asked for the $500,000 lawsuit to be dropped last month, but a judge denied it. Ami has been the representative of the estate since Billy Brown’s death in February 2021.

Ami Brown asked that the lawsuit be dismissed, noting a “lack of subject matter jurisdiction.” Ami and her legal team are trying to argue that the federal court does not have the right to rule on an estate case. Because the D.C. judge quickly denied the request, the case will move forward.

The doctor said he signed a contract with Billy Brown in January 2009 and invested $20,000. The Tennessee doctor also shared that Billy had agreed to pay him 10 percent of the profits, but did not follow through. Maughon also shared that in the same year, he invested another $10,000 in Billy and his company. For her part, Ami shared that no valid will has been found and that Billy’s estate is only worth $412,000. The family also had $27,000 in outstanding medical bills that needed to be paid.
