Sister Wives spoilers and updates hint that all of Kody Brown’s wives worked to support their families before they revealed their polygamous lifestyles.
Brown patriarch Kody Brown opened up about her life before going public in the prologue to her book Becoming Sister Wives: The Story Of An Unconventional Marriage. She explained how they lived before the public became aware of their unique family dynamic.
Kody Brown admitted that her family is far from unconventional and knows that many people don’t understand the type of marriage she has. The TLC star admitted that it is hard to explain to other people how he manages to love all four of his wives. But for him, it is important that his family works and they are all happy.
The TLC star revealed that before they stepped into the spotlight, all four of his wives made “significantly” to support the family. Most of his wives had full-time jobs to support the children and pay for large expenses such as a mortgage.
Kody Brown disclosed that if one of his wives chose not to work and stayed at home instead, he would make sure she was well looked after. If one of his wives earns a lot of money from her job while the other takes care of the children, they share the income. If someone gets a sturgeon, he shares it with the family.
Sister Wives: The Brown’s Financial Woes
In the meantime, Kody Brown had reportedly worked in the past in a number of jobs, such as as a travelling salesman and a forester.
However, his jobs were not enough to support his large family. They had money problems that led the Browns to file for bankruptcy three times. Janelle filed for bankruptcy in 1997, Meri and Kody in 2005 and Christine in 2010. The first episode of Sister Wives aired on 26 September 2010.
At the beginning, the Kody Brown wives were all smiles in front of the camera and said they were happy to share their spouses with each other. But after more than a decade and 21 seasons of Sister Wives, their lives have changed dramatically.
