Angela Gutierrez was on Season 7 of My 600-Lb Life. Her story showed both perseverance and hardship. Weighing over 600 pounds, she had previously undergone weight-loss surgery.
However, she had regained the weight. With her health declining, Angela realized this was possibly her last chance. So, she moved from Ohio to Houston, aided by her ex-boyfriend. Now, she hoped Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, or Dr. Now, could help her take back control of her life.
However, Angela’s journey didn’t go as planned. She was initially determined. But, she struggled to follow Dr. Now’s strict weight-loss plan. It involved a 1,200-calorie, no-carb diet.
She missed several appointments and frequently clashed with Dr. Now over her progress. After some initial weight loss, Angela quit the program. She returned to Ohio to lose weight on her own.
Months after her departure, Angela reported to Dr. Now that she had lost 120 pounds. She looked slimmer and no longer needed an oxygen mask. But, Dr. Now was skeptical. He doubted she followed the program closely enough to get those results.

My 600-Lb Life: Personal Struggles Beyond the Show
Angela Gutierrez’s decision to quit My 600-Lb Life wasn’t just about the challenges of the weight-loss program. Her personal life was filled with responsibilities and hardships that made her journey even more difficult.
She struggled with not having a reliable caregiver after moving to Houston. Her son, who had been her primary caregiver, took a job that prevented him from helping her full-time.
Meanwhile, her daughter, who has multiple sclerosis, required significant care herself. Angela was also taking care of her cousin’s daughter, which further stretched her ability to focus on her own health.
While on the show, Angela had emotional outbursts, including a notable meltdown over a bathroom that lacked handicap access. Despite support from her family and Dr. Now’s team, the toll of her weight was too much. This led her to leave the program.
My 600-Lb Life: Angela Gutierrez’s Tragic Passing in 2023
Angela Gutierrez’s journey after My 600-Lb Life ended tragically. She died on March 21, 2023, at age 49. Days before her death, Angela posted on Facebook. She was seeking treatment for her dangerously low oxygen levels.
She wrote, “Time to figure out why my oxygen wants to stay in the 70s and just reboot myself and get better.” While her exact cause of death remains unknown, it appears that her health issues persisted long after her appearance on the show.
Angela’s passing left her family, friends, and fans devastated. Her obituary said her family, including her husband, Salvador Gutierrez, and her two children, Andrea and Christopher, loved her deeply. She was also a doting grandmother to her three grandchildren and had a special bond with her cat, “Trouble.”
