My 600-lb Life Where Is Penny Saeger, The Star Of ‘My 600-lb Life,’ Now

TLC’s My 600-lb Life has shocked audiences for nearly a decade with dozens of unforgettable stories about dramatic weight loss by ordinary people living with morbid obesity.

However, in season two, Penny Saeger became one of the show’s biggest stars because she refused to embrace the process.

At 45, in the wake of the birth of her son Liam, she began her journey at an intimidating 530 pounds and was only able to drop to 495 over the course of a year despite stern warnings from Dr. Now, TLC’s bariatric surgeon (via The Cinemaholic).

While it’s common for participants to splutter at the 1,200-calorie diet instituted to prepare for gastric bypass surgery, Penny actually succeeded in this initial process by losing the 40 pounds needed to proceed with surgery. Her problems began after surgery, where it was reported that she ignored the diet provided by her surgeon, refused to exercise, and asked her recovery nurses to provide extra meals. This behavior led her to gain five pounds, erasing some of the progress she had made before surgery.

With the 2015 launch of the companion show My 600-Lb Life: Where Are They Now?, speculation resurfaced about Seager’s health and well-being.

Although her progress had stopped at 494 pounds, she remained optimistic: “It’s been a much more positive experience here without someone telling me I’m not doing a good job. I don’t feel the need to be on a scale because it doesn’t matter,” she told TLC (via In Touch Weekly). “I’m better now than I was before because I feel it.”

In the years since, Penny Saeger has not provided any clarification on her weight loss or her mindset. As of December 2020, Life & Style confirms that Seager still lives in Maryland. However, nothing on Twitter or Instagram indicates that she has continued to diet or exercise. Her last informative Twitter post was in 2015 and highlighted her 16th wedding anniversary. Instagram shows a similarly reticent display with only a couple of photos of her son Liam playing.
