My 600-lb Life: Where Is Steven Assanti, The Star Of ‘My 600-lb Life,’ Now

My 600-lb Life’ is an original TLC program that has presented stories of individuals with morbid obesity since 2012. The show documents the dedicated efforts of Iranian-American surgeon, Dr. Now, who is based in Houston and helps his patients who want to reduce their weight to healthy levels. Not all of his patients are quick to comply with him, however, and Steven Assanti is certainly one of those subjects. You may be wondering where Steven is and what he is currently doing.

My 600-lb Life: Steven Assanti ’s Story

Steven’s first appearance on the show in season 5 was marked by him starting his journey at almost 800 pounds. His attitude and unwillingness to adhere to the dietary regimens recommended by Dr. Now appalled many in the audience. After a number of ups and downs and dramatic twists and turns, including a period of addiction to painkillers, Steven Assanti was able to determine a seemingly right path for himself.

He underwent surgery after approval from Dr. Now and was able to lose some of his weight. His progress, along with that of his brother Justin Assanti, was followed in three follow-up episodes in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

In the final sequel episode about the Assanti brothers, Steven Assanti tried to reconnect with Justin Assanti with the hope of redemption. Steven’s (limited) progress after surgery inspired Justin Assanti to go ahead with his own weight loss surgery. Steven had not made significant progress, however, and Dr. Now warned him that he might soon begin to gain weight.

Steven Assanti said afterward that he was determined to lose weight and stick to Dr. Now’s diet. He also said that he had met someone special, Stephanie, and that he would be moving to Iowa to live with her and her daughter.

He went on to address the various controversial statements about his relationship. He said that the comments were all lies and that Stephanie was more than willing to take care of him. He was adamant about not letting the chance of a normal life slip through his fingers, which made him even more committed to his diet.

Unlike his brother Justin Assanti, Steven Assanti does not have a very visible presence on social media. However, his girlfriend, now wife, Stephanie Sanger, announced their marriage in a post on her Facebook page, which has since been deleted.

The couple married in 2018 in Iowa. They reportedly moved to Des Moines soon after their wedding. The last photo of the couple uploaded to Stephanie’s Facebook page dates back to 2019.

However, in an interview in 2020, Steven stated that although the couple is “married and together,” they are “technically separated.” In fact, it seems that the two live in different cities, an hour and a half apart. He stated that because of the coronavirus pandemic, he was staying in his apartment in a bubble. Even though he has lost some weight, he is still at high risk. However, he did state that they were planning to spend the holidays together and that they just needed a break. He even called her amazing.

In the final follow-up episode about the Assanti brothers, Steven was seen speaking with Dr. Now via Skype call from Iowa. From the conversation, Dr. Now deduced that Steven had gone back to his previous eating habits, which included eating pizza at least four times a day.

However, Steven also said that he had not used painkillers in quite some time. It also seems that the brothers no longer talk to each other. Although Steven didn’t release much about his personal life, we hope that everything will be okay soon.
