The View: Meghan McCain and Whoopi Goldberg don’t see eye-to-eye

According to The Daily Beast, Meghan McCain had a mixed assessment of Trump’s Union status. “There were many moments that seemed to me to really produce. Her television background really came out, especially the reunion of the [military] families, which I loved because I love these things”. If it wasn’t Trump, I probably would have loved him. If you’re someone on the right, you probably liked Rush Limbaugh, who’s fighting cancer, getting that medal.

Fox News said Whoopi Golberg was upset about Limbaugh’s medal. “You know, I’m really sorry Rush Limbaugh is sick because you never want to wish bad things to people, stage four cancer, but I’m sorry, I thought the Medal of Honor, Freedom should go to the people who really did things.” She asked “what did he do that deserves the Medal of Freedom? Meghan McCain commented that Limbaugh “completely changed the paradigm of radio”.

Whoopi Golberg continued, “I don’t understand. You have a Tuskegee airman sitting there and if you are going to give the Medal of Liberty to someone who has actually made a difference in the country and done all sorts of things, how about giving it to Elijah Cummings’ wife as a thank-you for all his services?”.

Behar was upset, too. “He’s been so racist and misogynistic over the years, to give him… Who’s next, Roger Stone? How about giving it to him? Or Steve Bannon?”

Sunny Hostin said the timing of the award was offensive. “And I don’t think it was lost on the black community that he gave this honor to Rush Limbaugh during Black History Month, sitting next to a Tuskegee aviator on Rosa Parks day, while Rush Limbaugh was a long-time bird during the Obama administration.”

Behar criticized the decision to allow Melanie Trump to give Limbaugh the medal. “And Melanie, the other bird, put the thing on him. She’s a little bird too.”

The Daily Beast reports that Alec Baldwin, a guest on The View, tried to add a little humour to the proceedings. Baldwin said, “I’ve decided I’m going to run for president so I can give Louis C.K.’s Medal of Liberty.” Behar wasn’t sure Baldwin was kidding, so he had to make it clear that he was.

A lot of other celebrities got the award, too. The New York Times reports that Meryl Streep and Robert DeNiro received the medal from President Barack Obama. President John F. Kennedy created the award in 1963 to honor “every person who has made a particularly meritorious contribution” to the United States.
