What Is My 600-lb Life Star Melissa Morris Doing Today?

TLC’s hit true-life series My 600-lb Life has 9 seasons, a 7-season spin-off and a legion of devoted fans. However, it initially began as a five-part miniseries that chronicled the lives of four “morbidly obese” patients over the course of seven years as they underwent gastric bypass surgery and embarked on a difficult weight-loss journey.

The success of that first season led to a format familiar to viewers today: a six-month to one-year journey with different patients, followed by “Where are they now?”. episodes.

In the first season, viewers met 31-year-old Melissa Morris, who began her journey with the series’ acclaimed specialist doctor, who now weighed 692 kilos. After realising that her constant weight gain was interfering with her ability to carry a child, Melissa Morris wanted to change something.

After a chance meeting with one of Dr. Now’s former patients, she met with a surgeon and subsequently lost 447 pounds. Viewers were captivated by her sweet and hardworking personality and were happy to see her back on the show in 2018.

Melissa Morris made the transition from model patient to employee, announcing in 2019 that she would be working in her “favourite place in the world” – Dr. Now’s office. In April this year, she also announced she was going back to school to study healthcare management, a field she now loves but never expected to join. While Melissa Morris has her career dreams underway, she’s also living her dream of being a mother to three children.

In doing so, she faces new variations on old challenges: weight gain, weight loss, cravings and depression. On top of this, she and her husband Chris are divorced but seem to be on good terms as they navigate co-parenting.

On her Instagram, Melissa Morris shares health updates, motivational messages and family photos with her supportive followers. “I am no longer letting my weight define my beauty,” she captioned masked selfie from December 2020. “I will no longer put value in anyone else’s opinion of me” As an inspiration to anyone who hears her story, Melissa Morris continually expresses her gratitude to Dr. Now, her staff and everyone who supports her.
