TLC was ahead of the craziness of reality TV before it exploded to the forefront of entertainment, and the continued success of My 600-lb Life is a great example of the kind of content the network delivers. Rather than focusing on divisive competition or glamorising the lives of celebrities, TLC brings viewers first and foremost the real everyday lives of viewers, with unique life stories.
My 600-lb Life introduces people who are morbidly obese and looking to Dr. Now for life-changing surgery. The series shows the emotional as well as physical toll these people feel as a result of their obesity and gives a glimpse of their courage, determination and hope that many find inspiring. The story of Nathan Prater was the centrepiece of the premiere of season 10 of My 600-lb Life. When Prater came to Dr. Now with a vision to change his life, the doctor made it clear that his lifestyle was killing him. Prater weighed 607 pounds at the start of the episode, and his wife, Amber, wasn’t far behind at 502 pounds. The couple struggled together not only with their weight, but also with the impact it was having on their marriage.
Throughout the episode, both Amber and Nathan Prater make it clear that they believe that losing weight and adopting a healthier lifestyle will make a difference to their marriage and their personal health. Many viewers supported the couple. They hoped that Amber and Nathan would find a way to love and care for each other that would leave them both feeling fulfilled.

Knowing that Nathan and Amber’s physical troubles had strained the marriage, many fans want to know if the couple have managed to stay married. Fortunately, the news is good; Nathan and Amber are still together and continuing their weight-loss journey. Back in August 2021, Prater shared on his Facebook account that he had reached a milestone of under 450 pounds, meaning he has lost over 150 pounds since the show began. Amber has also shared about workout goals and discussed how activity and fitness have become part of their family life.
