Married at First Sight: Derek Sherman Confessed That He And Katie Conrad Had A Major Argument

Derek Sherman and Katie Conrad fought in their marriage in Lifetime’s Married at First Sight Season 10 almost immediately after their return from their honeymoon in Panama. Katie was worried that Derek wasn’t ready for the wedding because he had never been in love before. Meanwhile, Derek was worried about Katie’s romantic feelings for a previous adventure.

At the couple’s one-month anniversary dinner, their problems got worse after Derek shared some of his dreams for the future. Some were quite simple, like backpacking in different countries, while others – like composing her Christmas song, building two tree houses and writing a children’s book – were a bit more whimsical or adventurous.

Katie Conrad was concerned about Derek’s goals because she thought they might interfere with their future together. In the March 18 episode of Mar. 18 of Married at First Sight, “Move In Or Move On,” Katie and Derek bitterly fought over her dreams just before Recommitment Day. In a counseling session with Dr. Viviana Coles, Katie even admitted that she didn’t know if she could ever be her husband’s “biggest fan” or truly support him.

On Recommitment Day – when the ‘Married at First Sight’ couples are asked to discuss and assess their continued commitment, or lack thereof, to their marriages after five weeks – Katie met Dr. Viviana, while Derek met with Pastor Cal Roberson. Both discussed what worked and what didn’t work in their relationship with their respective counselors.

About his relationship with Katie, Derek told Pastor Cal, “We’re doing quite well. We’ve made more progress.”

However, he admitted, things had taken a turn for the worse in the last few weeks. “But things have changed a lot lately. We’ve had a couple of arguments,” the star of “Married at First Sight” told Pastor Cal. “We had a big fight last night, too, and I had to sleep on the couch.”

Katie told Dr. Viviana she thought things were going well after their one-month anniversary. But she wasn’t sure she could fully support Derek in his hopes for the future, which made her worried about their potential progress in the future.

“After our anniversary night, I felt much more confident… I saw this effort on her part,” Katie began. “And I believe we have a strong friendship.” But we have all these hopes and dreams and goals, and it’s not something I fully believe in or stand behind me.”

The ‘Married At First Sight’ Star Worried That Katie Conrad Wouldn’t Support His Dreams

Derek told Reverend Cal that he knew all his dreams weren’t entirely realistic, and some of them were just “stupid, embarrassing things” he wanted to do for fun. Still, Katie’s lack of support worried him.

“Just because you have a family and you have kids doesn’t mean you can’t realize some of your dreams,” Derek told the Married at First Sight expert. “That’s my biggest concern right now.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Viviana wondered why Katie wasn’t attracted to Derek’s long list of future goals. “Most people are super attracted to ambition,” she said.

The 26-year-old said she thought Derek’s hopes seemed immature and didn’t endear him to her. “I think it’s the kind of direction he wants to take,” Katie explained. “I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, but I don’t know if I can be his number one cheerleader, because I’d pretend.”
