When Marla McCants first took part in the reality show, she weighed almost 800 kilos. Born in 1970 in Detroit, Michigan, the Nashville-born mother of three has a traumatic past.

Her ex-boyfriend ended up kidnapping her after a fight and held her at gunpoint. As a result, Marla began eating junk food constantly to cope with her emotional stress. By the time the culprit was arrested, she had already reached a weight of 700 kilos.

At first, Marla was able to move around with some assistance. She had previously worked as a nursing assistant and helped people with health problems. And now that she had become like one of his patients, she was an emotional wreck. She needed to hire a nursing assistant to take care of her.

The weight eventually climbed to 800 pounds, and by now Marla had given up. She couldn’t move, get out of bed or carry out her daily tasks. When she met Dr. Now, however, she dedicated herself fully to restoring her former self. Slowly, she reduced enough weight to get consent for gastric bypass surgery. At the end of the episode, she weighed 534 pounds.
