My 600-lb Life: Where Is Cynthia Wells, The Star Of ‘My 600-lb Life,’ Now

Cynthia Wells had a tough time in her season 5 episode of My 600-Lb Life. As a single mother of five, she had neglected her health for years to raise her children.

Soon it got to the point where she could no longer do her basic chores and naturally she worried about what would happen to her children if something happened to her. Like so many people before her, she entrusted her health to Dr. Now.

Anyone who has seen My 600-Lb Life can attest that Dr. Now is incredibly strict when it comes to ensuring that people interested in weight loss surgery stick to his plan. Cynthia didn’t like what she told him when she visited him, and with the stress of the constant back and forth from Oklahoma to Texas, he decided to just try to lose the weight himself without her help.

Eventually, however, she did get gastric bypass surgery with his help. While he started the episode at 610.3 pounds, he finished at 454 pounds, for a total weight loss of 156 pounds. It was a great start to a healthier life – where she could participate in all her children’s activities – but she still had a long way to go.

She may have been 454 pounds during her “My 600-Lb Life” episode in 2016, but Cynthia Wells wasn’t done yet. She stopped by “My 600-Lb Life: Where Are They Now?” to show her fans how much progress she’s made over the years. In the last couple of years, she’s dropped another 100 pounds or so, so now she’s in the mid-300-pound range.

While that’s a great job, it still wasn’t enough for Dr. Now, who wanted her to lose even more weight before agreeing to operate on her. He also told her that she should attend psychotherapy sessions so she could better manage her emotional attachment to food.

She seems to be doing much better and when she was last on the reality series, she announced how she wanted to continue to drop the pounds to eventually qualify for the excess skin removal surgery. She’s not letting up on her new healthy habits as she regularly posts updates on her Facebook profile, including tracking her progress, how far she’s run in a particular session, often with a friend by her side.

Considering that when she first appeared on the show she could barely get out of the house, but now runs over two miles, it’s extraordinary that her life has been completely turned around.
