TLC’s show “My 600-lb Life” follows extremely overweight people as they try to lose a lot of weight over a year. They are guided by Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, a surgeon in Houston. He puts them on a strict diet and sometimes suggests gastric bypass surgery. In one episode of season 6, two brothers, David and Benji, decided to lose weight and have the surgery. David Bolton’s obesity made it really hard for him to do normal things. “I almost became immobile,” he said at the start of the episode called “Benji and David Bolton’s Story.” He could only stand for three minutes and he barely fit through doors.

Eventually, he realized that he was setting a bad example for his brother, Benji, who was also becoming very obese.

The brothers tried different ways to control their eating, but nothing worked. David was worried he would die if he didn’t change his lifestyle, so he and Benji asked Dr. Now for help. David started at over 700 pounds.

They wanted to lose enough weight to have the surgery. David was determined to reach his goals, and he showed this at his second appointment with Dr. Now. He got permission for the surgery, which meant he could make the changes he needed for a healthier life.

David was also told to get professional help for his emotional attachment to food. After a year, he weighed 386 pounds, so he had lost over 300 pounds.

In a later episode in 2020, David appeared again. But something unexpected happened. The Bolton brothers were still losing weight, but they decided to go separate ways because of a problem they didn’t explain.

Also, David followed what another person from season 6, LB Bonner’s family, did and sued the show’s production company, Megalomedia. David said the changes he had to make before the surgery made him very frustrated and depressed, and the show didn’t provide mental health care.

In his personal life, David seems to be doing well based on his Facebook updates. In the next episode, we saw him dating a woman named Mary, but his Facebook says he’s engaged to Carrie Versteeg. David’s appearance has changed a lot for the better, and he looks happy with his new girlfriend in Pearland, Texas. Hopefully, the Bolton brothers can work things out and support each other again.
