My 600-lb Life: Where Is David Bolton, The Star Of ‘My 600-lb Life,’ Now

TLC’s unique original series “My 600-lb Life” follows morbidly obese people for a year as they pursue a healthier lifestyle by losing a significant amount of weight. They are placed under the guidance and supervision of Houston surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan, often referred to as “Dr. Now.” Individuals are put on a strict diet and then, if deemed necessary, Dr. Now suggests gastric bypass surgery. In one of these season 6 episodes, two brothers, David and Benji, made the decision to lose weight and undergo the surgery. It hasn’t been an easy journey for either brother, but they have shown significant progress, especially David Bolton, who is among the biggest weight losers on the show. Curious to know what he’s doing today?

My 600-lb Life: David Bolton’s Story

David Bolton’s obesity has made it extremely difficult for him to perform normal daily activities. “I almost became immobile,” he admitted at the beginning of the episode titled “Benji and David Bolton’s Story.” His condition allowed him to stand for a maximum of three minutes. He could barely fit through the doors.

Eventually, he realized that he was setting a bad example for his brother, Benji, who was also well on his way to that level of obesity.

The brothers had tried several ways to curb their affinity for food, but none of them had worked. Fearing that he would soon face death if he continued with his lifestyle, David Bolton, along with Benji, turned to Dr. Now for assistance. David Bolton began his weight loss journey at over 700 pounds.

After returning from their first appointment with the surgeon, David Bolton said the brothers began eating healthy and engaging in some physical activities.

They were looking for enough weight loss that would allow them to undergo weight loss surgery. David Bolton was determined to achieve his goals, and he demonstrated this during his second appointment with Dr. Now. David received a green light for surgery, which gave him the opportunity to directly make the necessary changes to ensure a healthier life.

David Bolton was also advised to enlist the help of a professional to help him manage his emotional attachment to food. At the end of one year, David’s weight was 386lbs, meaning he had lost over 300 lbs.

In a later 2020 episode, the audience met David Bolton again. However, the synopsis and, therefore, the episode brought unexpected news. The Bolton brothers were continuing their weight loss journey that they had started together, but due to an unknown conflict, they had decided to go their separate ways.

In addition, David Bolton followed the path of his season 6 castmate LB Bonner’s family and filed a lawsuit against the show’s production company, Megalomedia. David claimed that the lifestyle changes induced on David prior to the surgery “caused him extreme frustration and depression,” for which the show provided no mental health care.

As for his personal life, David Bolton seems to be thriving from his Facebook updates. Although in the next episode we saw David dating a woman named Mary, his Facebook profile says he is engaged to Carrie Versteeg. David’s appearance has changed drastically for the better, and he seems to be enjoying life with his new girlfriend in Pearland, Texas. However, hopefully the Bolton brothers can work out their differences and get back to being each other’s support system.
