Alaskan Bush People: Bear Brown Pulled An April Fools’ Prank On ‘ABP’ Fans

Alaska Bush People fans panicked on April 1. Series star Bear Brown announced on social media that he was leaving the Discovery Channel. But has Bear – whose beloved father Billy Brown died in February 2021 – really decided to leave the reality series that made his family famous?

Since 2014, Bear and his family have shared their lives with viewers in rural Alaska and Washington state. But it seemed the era was coming to an end when Bear shared on Instagram that he was leaving the series.

When Bear Brown announced he was quitting the Alaska Bush People, some of his supporters assumed he was telling the truth. His father died unexpectedly of a seizure on February 8, and it seemed plausible that Bear might have decided after that event that he no longer wanted to be involved in filming.

However, it turns out that Bear Brown has no intention of quitting reality TV. In a subsequent post, he explained that his big announcement was nothing more than an April Fool’s joke – which many fans suspected all along. He also apologised to all his fans who thought the joke wasn’t that funny. “Gotcha!!!! That was an April fools joke in bad taste!!! My apologies!” he wrote. Bear went on to say that he plans to continue with the Alaskan bushwhackers until he’s an “old man.” He added that in a “rough” year, the show has been “one thing in my life that is definitely good.”

Bear made it clear that he was not going to give up on his family’s reality show. However, it is not yet clear when the Alaskan bush will return to TV. The show’s 12th season ended in October 2020, and Discovery Channel hasn’t announced when – or if – the 13th season of Alaska Bushman might air.

However, the channel did broadcast a tribute a few weeks after Billy Brown’s death. On February 28, a special episode of the show, “The Legacy of Billy Brown,” featured never-before-seen footage of Billy and interviews with his children Ami Brown, Bear, Joshua Brown, Gabe Brown, Noah Brown, Bird and Rain Brown.
