Nowadays, more and more people are facing serious mental health problems. Celebrities, such as Kendall Jenner, are no exception to these problems and talk about them in record numbers.
Because mental health problems are often highly stigmatized, having more public figures talk about their experiences can be extremely beneficial. Normalizing conversations about mental health can help others feel more informed and supported. Kendall Jenner worked with Kenneth Cole to raise mental health awareness to do just that.
On May 15, 2019, Kendall Jenner sat down with Good Morning America to bring attention to the Mental Health Coalition. In the interview, Jenner talked about her personal experiences with anxiety and how she is managing it in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Typically, Kendall Jenner has work to do to keep her busy. As the highest-paid model in the world, she is constantly on the road. But while lack of work makes her anxious these days, at the beginning of her career, her work would often be a source of nervous feelings.

“I was very nervous during the fashion shows. I feel like when you walk on the catwalk, I say it from experience, you’re just thinking, “Walk straight! Walk straight! – and you’re trying to focus on that. Especially me, because I was very nervous when I met people in the audience. I was trying to make an effort to get out,” Jenner said in an interview with Elle.
Fortunately, with age and experience, Jenner was able to overcome the nerves of the track. But now I’m okay with it, I’ve gotten so good that I like to know who’s there, and I’ll take a peek to see who’s in the audience before I go out. But it took a while to get to this point,” added the 24-year-old.
But just because Kendall Jenner got over has runway problems doesn’t mean he’s not still struggling with anxiety. In fact, in a recent interview with Good Morning America, the model shared the fact that she started experiencing anxiety at a very young age.
She said she remembers approaching her mother, Kris Jenner, and was afraid because she couldn’t breathe. After Kris took her daughter to the doctors, they determined that there was nothing physically wrong with her. It wasn’t until years later, when Kendall Jenner started having panic attacks, that she discovered she was suffering from anxiety.
But how is Kendall Jenner handling her anxiety today? Since her opportunities to work, travel and spend time with friends and family are limited, she turned to other management mechanisms to help manage her anxiety. “On days when I don’t have that much to do, I tend to get a little anxious. And to calm myself down, I usually read a book or meditate,” said the 24-year-old. Hopefully Jenner will continue to use her platform to talk about her experience, which could lead others to talk about theirs.
