My 600-lb Life: Where Is Melissa Morris, The Star Of ‘My 600-lb Life,’ Now

When the show began in 2012, TLC had no idea how big a success My 600-lb Life would be, either for the network or for the many actors who took part. What began as a seven-year weight-loss journey over the course of a five-part miniseries has turned into a nine-season triumph that is one of TLC’s most popular shows. It even has a spin-off series, Where Are They Now, celebrating its seventh season. And some of that success should probably be shared with the series’ very first cast member: Melissa Morris.

The show follows a number of “extremely obese” people as they embark on a year-long journey with Dr. Now, who helps them change – and often save – their lives. Dr. Now is often the last hope for patients whose extreme weight is too risky for other doctors. When Melissa joined the show, she weighed 653 kilos.

Her husband Chris enabled her weight gain so she could play a carer on The Cinemaholic, but when she realised that her weight was not only preventing her from carrying out normal, everyday tasks, but also denying her her dream of having children, she decided to do something about it. She turned to Dr. Now.

From her first meeting with Dr. Now in 2005, Melissa began following his rules, adopting a new diet and exercise program to transform her life. Since the gastric bypass surgery she underwent on the show, she continued to follow these rules and eventually lost almost 500 pounds, now weighing 157 pounds! She also managed to achieve her dream of becoming a mother and now has three children.

However, it hasn’t all been as easy as it sounds, and the reality star took some of the weight back on after having children. As she explains in the ‘Where Are They Now’ episode, it was hard to be around children’s food all the time.

During her pregnancy with her second child, Melissa gained back over 100 pounds. She also struggled with depression – which never helps weight loss – when her husband Chris went back to work and she stayed at home with the kids.

According to The Cinemaholic, Melissa Morris divorced Chris after she was caught cheating on her husband, and she seems much happier. She’s still working on her weight loss journey and believes so strongly in the Dr. Now program that she now works for him at his office in Texas.

She celebrated her 14th year since meeting him in 2019 with an Instagram post sharing a photo of the doctor with her three children. She’s also a public speaker and Weight Watchers advocate, enjoying her life with her dreams coming true.
