Former stew boss Kate Chastain from Below Deck explained exactly why she thinks that stew boss Hannah Ferrier from Below Deck Mediterranean has been fired. Captain Sandy Yawn fired Hannah Ferrier after receiving a photo of her prescription valium. But Yawn said she fired her because she thought Ferrier posed a safety risk to the boat.
Kate Chastain said that if Hannah Ferrier could have produced a prescription and registered the drug it would be another story. But, “On boats, you can get fired for your personality if people don’t like you,” Kate Chastain explained in another podcast below deck. “It happened to me, hard to believe, I know it was in the early years”.
“But if Hannah was a great stew boss, a hard worker, a good team player,” she continued. “I think they would have said, ‘Okay, you’ve got a recipe and you’re such a valuable asset. You forgot to tell us to put it on the ship’s roster. But now we do. Thank God we didn’t get caught. Let’s move on.
Below Deck Med: Kate Doesn’t Think Hannah Was Fired Only Because Of The Medication
“But I guess she wasn’t good at her job,” said Chastain. “Even when she was sober, she still wasn’t that good at her job. She wasn’t good for morale. Going around telling people, “Kiko was my best friend and now I’m all alone. Be an adult. You’re basically separating yourself from the rest of the crew, which is not cool.
“I think if she had presented a recipe, which she didn’t, and she was a team player, good at her job, I think she would still be on board,” said Kate Chastain. “But it’s as if there are too many negative things”.
Kate Chastain adds that she hasn’t spoken to Hannah Ferrier since Ferrier fantasized about her a year ago. Kate Chastain caught Ferrier talking about her behind her back and confronted her via text message. “Yesterday was the anniversary of a year since she left me alone,” noted Chastain.
“All drugs on board must be on an official record,” said Chastain. “Because otherwise we would go from country to country with a bunch of drugs on board. This is called the 1980s. “So it doesn’t matter whether you took them or not,” she said. When Captain Sandy confronted Hannah Ferrier about the valium, Hannah Ferrier said she didn’t take the drug. “These are drugs that the boat didn’t know anything about. And imagine if they go to a new country and officials come on board to do a check to make sure you’re not taking drugs from one country to another”. They will say very well: “Here is a list of all the drugs that we have on board and that are accounted for and prescribed”.
“If you have drugs that were not on the list, we have a problem,” she added. Chastain says that if you are stopped in a car with valium without a prescription, every pill is a felony.
Captain Sandy was criticized by social media for following Hannah Ferrier into her cabin because she was afraid Hannah Ferrier would throw the drug away. Chastain thinks Captain Sandy had the right idea. “Well, Hannah was in the bathroom, and if she thought her job was at risk and she had a miscommunication, if that was the case, Hannah would have said ‘oh my God, I’m so sorry’. I’ll go get the recipe right now”. Don’t wait to go to the bathroom”.
“No, she went to the bathroom, oh she’s in no hurry,” continued Chastain. “Actually she’s going to take a little potty break”. Look, I don’t know about you guys, but I tried that trick many times in high school. Sandy was more or less right”.
