Season 7, Episode 6 introduced us to 29-year-old Michigan wife Lacey Hodder, who weighed over 690 pounds when she first met Dr. Now. She admitted that she turned to food as a way to deal with her parents’ divorce, but was “ashamed” of how much she had let herself go. The celebrity Dr. told her that she is “a ticking clock right now” and that she would do herself serious harm if she didn’t immediately prioritize her health.
Lacey Hodder’s life revolved around food from an early age. Her troublesome home life, the fact that her family owned several restaurants, and eating her own mother’s binge were all factors involved in how Lacey Hodder got her eating problems. She also became a loner because of her low self-esteem and preferred to play video games rather than human interactions.
In the My 600-lb Life episode, Lacey Hodder was heard saying, “Waking up is so painful because there’s so much weight on every part of me now that every inch of my body is in constant pain, and it’s much worse when I move”. She was essentially handicapped because of her weight, barely able to move, perform simple tasks, or just live a normal life. So she decided it was time to change her life – to become healthier, fitter, and better than who she is.

Since Lacey Hodder couldn’t be approved for slimming surgery until she lost a significant amount of weight herself, Dr. Now gave her a high-protein, low-carb diet that she should adhere to. In two months, by following the diet plan and taking a 30-minute walk twice a day, Lacey Hodder was able to lose 105 pounds.
Dr. Now, extremely pleased with her progress, he scheduled her for gastric bypass surgery, after which she was able to lose another 150 pounds. At the end of her 12 months in the program, Lacey Hodder weighed 435 pounds and seems to be losing even more. “I’m starting to love my life now and how it has completely changed over the past year,” Lacey Hodder said on the show. “It’s not easy, but I think I’m handling it well.
