Sister Wives: Meri Brown’s Feelings Towards Kody Brown’s New Wife

Sister Wives spoilers and updates hint that Janelle Brown and Kody Brown had to tell other people that they are siblings when they newly married. Living as polygamists was difficult in the 1990s, so they lied to people around them so they could fly under the radar.

Kody Brown married Meri Brown in 1990. Three years later he married Janelle Brown and they all lived together in the same home. Their cohabitation wasn’t legal, so they had to make something up when people started asking who Janelle was.

Meri and Kody Brown’s neighbours are used to both of them, so Janelle Brown’s presence might pique their curiosity. So they decided to tell them that Janelle and Kody Brown are siblings so they would stop asking. Technically, that wasn’t wrong. Before Kody and Janelle were married, the latter’s mother Sheryl Usher married Kody’s father Winn Brown. At the time, Janelle and her mother didn’t know much about what was going on in the polygamy community. It was only later in life that they became familiar with the religion.

Sheryl married twice before she and Winn were together. Her first husband was Janelle Brown’s father, Robert Schriever, who died when Janelle was three. Her second marriage, which ended in divorce, was to Merlin Fryer.

Before her life with Kody Brown, Janelle Brown was married to Mer’s brother Adam Barber and they were in a monogamous relationship. They were together for only two years and had no children.

Sister Wives: Meri Brown’s Feelings Towards Kody Brown’s New Wife

Meri Brown made it clear that she was not threatened by Kody Brown’s marriage to Janelle. She explained that their bond was not romantic, so she had no reason to worry. The same was noted by viewers about their relationship. Even Janelle once claimed that their marriage was not based on deep love or affection, but on commercial necessity.

The Brown family did not deny that they had such a bond. They did not describe their relationship as ‘romantic’, but as ‘cerebral’ or ‘intellectual’. Even so, Janelle and Kody seem to be a perfect match when it comes to a polygamous relationship. Meri Brown also explained that she now understands that Janelle may have felt resentful when they decided to introduce her as Kody’s sister. Meri said she didn’t think of it that way before, but rather as a soft way to introduce Janelle to the polygamous community.
